Getting Our Style Back

Enough is enough! After over a year of mundane leggings and make-up free faces, it’s time we get back to looking, and most importantly, feeling our best. The quarantine spiraled us into a loungewear trap, and we all avoided wearing lipstick, rightfully so, in fear of the smeared smiles. I too was a victim and dove into the yoga pant zone longer than I care to admit.

Now that things are opening back up and getting back to normal (whatever normal may be these days), it’s important we do the same. We all deserve self-care, and our sense of style is an integral part of that preservation. There are dates, parties, movies, vacations and so much more to catch up on and look forward to.  We owe it to ourselves to be prepared for all the social fun that awaits and to step back out with our best fashion foot forward.

How we present ourselves to the newly opened world speaks volumes about us as individuals now more than ever before. Many people suffered inexplicable loss. Many suffered and are still suffering from depression.  For those of us fortunate enough to emerge from this dark year unscathed for lack of a better word, we truly have no reason to continue in the black capri leggings and oversized t-shirt.

We have all experienced the wonderful benefits of a well-planned ensemble.  We know our appearance can boost our confidence and self-esteem daily. So, whether you lavish in boho-chic, preppy, vintage, casual, elegant…embrace your style again.  Not only will we all go back to feeling our optimal best, but we can help inspire others along the way.

If we’ve learned anything this past year, it’s that time and memories are precious, and we should cherish every moment spent with family and friends. Everyone seems to be making up for lost time and capturing it on their smartphone cameras. So, for that reason alone, it’s worth making the most of each outfit. No matter your age, body shape or budget – we can all jazz up and reinvigorate our closets.

Here are some shopping tips for those of you ready to reclaim your style or start anew.

Summer styles are on clearance in most retail stores including TJMaxx, Marshalls, Rack and Ross.

  •  Be cautious of outlet malls - their “sale” prices can be misleading.
  • Some of the best finds I have ever scored for myself and clients have been at consignment shops. Affluent area second-hand stores are gems!
  • Spend your hard-earned money on the following staples: great fitting jeans, the perfect LBD (little black dress) and a timeless piece of jewelry or handbag. In my experience, everything else needed for the perfect wardrobe can be found for a bargain.

Happy styling, brighter days! Annette
