As President for the Americas and European Union Region, Odilon Almeida is responsible for Western Union’s business across 98 countries, encompassing all the companies’ products and services in three macro regions: North America, Latin America and Caribbean and the European Union.  Like many who have found success in leadership positions, he embodies the six characteristics that define what it means to be a 21^st century leader.

I recently marked two years at City of Hope, and as I noted this personal milestone I began to reflect back on the journey that got me here. As a Latina, as a woman, and as a daughter of immigrants from humble beginnings, it was not exactly preordained that I would be working in strategy and planning at City of Hope one day.

Businesses have adopted social media, but in 2015 it will no longer be seen as a discrete activity; it will spread through the whole organization.

A bridge connects two points over an obstacle such as a river, ravine or roadway. Yet, we also need bridges to connect ideas and divergent viewpoints otherwise input may be ignored and personal tensions mount. Communication bridges also prevent disengagement, mindless mediocrity, stress and destructive conflict.

High anxiety, defensive behaviors, and emotional blame are all common reactions to the word "feedback." Yet, if we are striving for excellence, how do we improve and make real time corrections if we are not open to continuous learning?
