From professional development of its colleagues to its strong emphasis on building a talent pipeline, CVS Health is taking the lead to fully address and leverage the cultural demographic shift exploding across America. It’s widely been reported that Hispanics are at the forefront of this shift; at 52 million of the current population, they are the fastest growing minority group with 50,000 Hispanics turning 18 every month and entering the workforce or going on to higher education.

You could say it was my 15 minutes of fame back in 1997 when I stood on the front steps of the Miami Beach Police Department shielding my eyes from the South Florida sun as I stared into the lens of a TV camera. I had a plastic device nestled into my ear with a live feed from news anchors in Atlanta who quickly rattled out questions about the unfolding high-profile serial killer saga involving the murder of Italian designer Gianni Versace on the steps of his Ocean Drive mansion.

The idea that Latinas put their families first has sometimes been used as a barrier to question our potential as dedicated leaders and organizational contributors.  This is one of those situations where there is both truth and distortion in the stereotypes about Latinas.

I remember it was November of 1995 when I got the call from the People Magazine Miami Bureau Chief to skip my next few days of class, trek down from Gainesville to South Florida and assist them on a story. I was finishing up my last semester in college after interning at the popular national magazine the summer prior.

Obtaining a college education is so important today, but sometimes it seems like it is very difficult to figure out how to pay for it. Whether you are saving for your son, daughter, niece, nephew or grandchild, it can be a challenge. As you see every day, the cost of things keep going up, and it should be no surprise that the cost of a college education continues to rise as well. For many, next to saving for your home, your biggest financial challenge may be saving for your child's college education.
