Having seniority or holding a position of authority doesn’t necessarily mean that you are qualified to be a mentor.
A mentor should be an individual that has experienced both hardship and success – regardless of hierarchy or rank – that can benefit a potential mentee. That’s why “mentor matching” is so important. Unfortunately, if those seeking mentorship are too desperate or eager, they may take advice from someone with the wrong qualifications or expectations – and this can cause lasting damage.
