Money 101: It's Elementary

Once kids start asking for things they see in the store or on TV, it’s not long before most parents hammer home their first personal finance lesson: Money doesn’t grow on trees. From there, how can we teach them other basic money concepts?

This is becoming a particular problem for Hispanic parents, as more advertising is targeting the fast-growing Hispanic community and their soon to be $1.5 trillion in purchasing power.  According to Mayra Serrano, community interventionist at CCARE, City of Hope, “One of our more recent goals has been to teach kids to recognize these ads and to be more media savvy in general.  From there, it’s an easy segue to teaching them about money.”

Paul is Vice President and Senior Relationship Manager for Northern Trust, Los Angeles.  His responsibilities include advising high net worth individuals, families, trust, foundations on financial services, with a focus on lending and overall management of the client relationship.  Paul has a 17 year career advising high net worth individuals/entrepreneurs to meet their financial goals and objectives. Paul also brings an understanding and experience for our trust and investment management segments.

Prior to joining Northern Trust, Paul worked for U.S. Trust and legacy Bank of America Private Bank beginning in 2000.  Before working in the Wealth Management segment Paul worked in the Business Banking segment helping companies with financing, treasury management, and other banking solutions.

Paul studied Political Science at USC and has an Associate of Arts from Marymount College in Palos Verdes.  He and his wife reside in Rancho Palos Verdes and they have two children
