As the fastest growing minority in the Unite States, Hispanics will likely face a long-term care challenge in their families. According to a November AARP article: “Challenges of Long Term Care, ” 18 million people over age 65 will be dealing with a disability by 2030, up 11 million in 2010. Also, the article highlights that by 2050, there will be three times as many people age 80 and older as in 2010. In addition, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services projects that 70% of all Americans over the age of 65 will require some type of long-term care services.

The 2010 U.S. census and other recent statistics show that Hispanics are the fastest growing minority in the U.S. But a recent LIMRA study, “Hispanics an untapped market for life insurance,” by Gillian Roberts, September 4, 2013, also shows that Hispanics are not saving enough for their future and are underinsured as well.

Originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, José “Rafi” Rodríguez is a Distinguished Graduate from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez U.S. Air Force ROTC program serving with distinction for 26 years.  After culminating his successful military career and retiring with the rank of Colonel in March 2004, he then pursued a career as a Financial Advisor and now presides over Rodríguez Financial Strategies, LLC with a focus on comprehensive financial planning for professionals and business owners. 

Additionally, Rafi currently serves as a Senior Consultant at the Center for Hispanic Leadership, which provides thought-leadership, business strategy, and human capital consulting services for corporations that are seeking to empower their Hispanic employees and/or build brand loyalty with the U.S. Hispanic market.

From 2004 to 2012, Rafi served as the leader of the Puerto Rican Cultural Society of Dayton, the Dayton Hispanic Chamber, and the Ohio Hispanic Chambers of Commerce.  He has been recognized with the 2007 President’s Volunteer Award from President George W. Bush, the Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 2009 Business Advocate of the Year, the Supreme Award at the Ohio Hispanic Leadership Summit 2010, and with the 2011 Ohio Military Service with Distinction award.  In 2012 he was featured in the Latino American “Who’s Who” for his achievements in the advancement of the Latino American business community.  In 2012, Governor Kasich appointed Rafi to server in the Ohio Minority Business Advisory Council. He serves on the board of Directors of the United Way of the Grater Dayton Area and is a member of the Kiwanis Club in Beavercreek, Ohio.
