In his 35 years of experience advising health care organizations (payers, providers and life science companies), entrepreneurs and emerging businesses, John has earned a reputation as one of the industry’s foremost performance improvement and governance experts. John founded Three-Sixty Advisory Group, LLC (Three-Sixty), a business accelerator, to help emerging health care services and medical technology companies address growth, performance and capital challenges. Most recently, John served as the Chief Executive Officer of Ingenix Consulting (now Optum). 

A graduate of Tufts University, John earned two master’s degrees from the University of Missouri, one in health administration and the other in industrial engineering as well as his Ph.D. in health systems engineering. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the initial class of Fellows of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. He is a senior member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers. John serves on the board of directors of the Ensign Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:ENSG), and as a member of the audit committee as well as serves as chairman of the compensation committee and the nominating and governance committee.

An author of over 50 articles on topics ranging from performance reporting and product line management to strategy and governance, John has been a keynote speaker in many major professional and trade association meetings and has lectured at Northwestern University, Case Western University, University of Missouri, UCLA, and USC. He was the lead author of the book Cost Management for Hospitals, which received the Book of the Year Award from HIMSS. He has also received two Article of the Year Awards from HIMSS.
