Taking Care of Your Eyelids and Eyelashes Will Have You Looking More Healthy and Vibrant

When we encounter someone, the first thing that we look at are the eyes. And one of the first things you might notice if you were to compare different faces is that eyelash length varies considerably. Children in particular tend to have longer eyelashes, and people will often say that those with longer eyelashes do indeed look younger, as well as more attractive.

So when we talk about taking care of the face with proper moisturizing, it’s important not to overlook the eye area, which can be especially difficult to deal with. In my work with Olay, taking care of both the eyelids and the eyelashes is a big concern along with the rest of the face and other areas that are constantly exposed to the sun and other elements. There’s even an “eye & lash duo” product that the company came out with based on extensive scientific research & development in this area.

The theory is that you’ll be more likely to take care of both your eyelids and eyelashes if you can treat them at the same time. There’s a serum you can use to give you longer and thicker and fuller eyelashes, but you also want to protect and nurture the eyelids with a moisturizing cream for the full effect of a more youthful and healthy appearance.

Because the eyelids are so thin, they need more moisture than any other part of the skin. Though their thinness makes them more susceptible to environmental damage, it also allows them to absorb moisturizing creams more easily than other areas are able to. So there’s really no excuse not to moisturize around the eyes. Without it, the eyelids become dehydrated and that’s when you start to see lots of wrinkles, especially on the lower eyelid. People tend to forget to go underneath the eye, so we’ve developed an applicator that fits perfectly under the lower eyelid to make things easier for people to use and remember.

Moisturizing creams with peptides are best because these protein particles act as messengers that “awaken” cells when absorbed through the skin. This awakening increases the skin cells natural production of collagen, which is something that declines as we age. Yes, we do have things like fillers and Botox if someone needs a quick fix, but you risk being black and blue at first and that’s not going to help if you’ve got an important event that day or evening. So moisturizing around the eyes is key if you want to be ready and looking your best at a moment’s notice. The other key piece of the puzzle besides moisturizing is good hydration. After all, we are mostly made up of water, though the percentage in the body varies according to many factors, including age, gender, weight, and hydration level. If you keep yourself well-hydrated, you won’t lose as much water or you’ll at least replenish what you do lose.

Coming full circle, the other way that you can control the amount of water you lose through the skin is by adding a layer of moisturizer. That’s really what you’re doing when you moisturize. And that’s why the best time to moisturize is right after you shower, or right after you wash your face; when your skin is still wet, you can seal the moisture in by applying the right product.

Three Simple Tips – to keeping an eye on your lashes

  1. Remember to keep your body hydrated by drinking lots of water.
  2. Use creams that moisturize the eyelids to help soften expression lines.
  3. Best time to moisturize is after you shower.
