Mentors want others to succeed and will empower people to take action and to be themselves.
They encourage their mentees to take risks and do not judge or penalize them for failed but well-intentioned efforts. When a bond of trust is formed, they are able to acknowledge their areas of deficiency and will more readily enlist your help. Mentors want you to develop your own identity. While they will coach you, they will not expect you to “be like them” – unlike those in power who believe that their way is the only way, and expect others to want to emulate them.
