Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy for Hispanic Patients

01/29/2016 11:48AM | 7043 views

In this video, Dr. Joseph Alvarnas, Director of Medical Quality at City of Hope, talks about prostate cancer and the latest advancement in treatment: Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy.

As in the general population, prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer diagnosed in Hispanic men. But thanks to advancements in prevention and treatment, we’re also seeing a significant decrease by about 3% per year among Hispanic men.

City of Hope is committed to seeing that trend continue by improving the patient experience and communication with in-culture and Spanish-language education and information. As they push the boundaries of medical science and break down barriers to patient access, City of Hope staffers – along with El Concilio, their patient-family advisory group – build trusting relationships with Hispanic patients so that they and their families are better informed about treatment options and feel comfortable about medical procedures and treatment paths.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, this video is but one of the many tools you’ll find on your way to making an informed decision about your treatment. You’ll be in good hands with Dr. Alvarnas, as he gives you an overview of prostate cancer and Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy; how the proven surgery is performed by a prostate cancer specialist using the Di Vinci surgical robot to safely remove the prostate; the dedicated members of the surgery care team; post-surgery care and recovery time; and frequently asked questions.

After watching the video, we hope you’ll be inspired to ask your own questions about treatment options and personalized medicine, the risks and benefits to your health, and how improved outcomes for patients are saving lives and keeping families whole and healthy.
