In  this HHL video, Dr. Ashing, a professor and director of the Center of Community Alliance for Research and Education at City of Hope, emphasizes the importance of self-advocacy for individuals and families. Dr. Ashing, who is currently developing and implementing community participatory interventions to reduce the risk and burden of chronic illness, in particular cancer, explains how cancer and other life-threatening diseases are directly linked to lifestyle choices. Thus, families, especially Hispanics, should focus on eating healthy, not smoking, and continuing to be active with their children to ensure healthier and longer lives.
